The inclusion of Immigrants in Cypriot Society: the Role of the School and the Local Authorities (Seminar)

RUBSI was honored to undertake the coordination of a one-day seminar organised by the Pallouriotissa High School and the Municipality of Nicosia (The initiative was taken by the Head Teacher of the Pallouriotissa High School Mrs. Maria Theodotou). The seminar was focused on (i) the inclusion of immigrants in the Cypriot Society and (ii) the role of the school and local authorities with regard the acculturation of immigrants into the host society. The seminar included workshops examining various aspects of immigration from a social and political perspective. The various workshops were coordinated by RUBSI members.
The seminar was organised on May 14th 2008 at the Famagusta Gate and was well attended by the Mayor and Counselors of the Municipality of Nicosia, politicians, and officials from various organisations working on immigrant issues, teachers and secondary education students.
Dr Constantinos Phellas, Executive Director of RUBSI presented a paper titled "Immigrants in Contemporary Cyprus: Children of a Lesser God?”
